Born In America!

What it means to me to be an American Citizen? Well it's all I know, and pretty much all I want to know! I am so grateful to live in such a diverse place where we have the right to vote, freedom of speech, where we have the right to make our own choices. Women are able to work where they please, we have shelter that comes with heaters, hot water, and covers at night! A place where there are so many options for great food, free education, fun fashion, and good entertainment!

Although we feel like our economy is not stable, and our lives our out of our control at times, we take living in America for granite. In our our English book "re reading America", It talked about how the 1950's was the "Ideal" time period to live in. Being it was more family friendly, especially for the youth. Still would not want to live in that time period anymore. We as Americans want something new, "a more equal distribution of work, family, and community time for both men and women, children and adults".( p. 33) Sometimes i wish i was living in the 1950's, it seems life was easier, but then i think about it,and i agree as a woman we have more rights now. I really enjoyed starting to read this book. I tend to take many things for granite trying to keep up with our busy lives. I think this will be good to read and analyze this book!

  1. Hello Laura!
After reading your comments on what you think it means to be an American citizen, I sensed you are proud of being a U.S. citizen. You mentioned a few of the many rights that women here in the U.S. have. I agree with you. There are not many places on this earth where women enjoy the freedom to pursue their happiness as here in the good U.S. As to answer your question about my nationality, I am from El Salvador in C.A.
    Are you from St.George?

  3. Living in the fifties would be kick ass! I agree with you in the sence that sometimes we do get too caught up in this crazy mess called life. Seems like all their was to worry about back in the day was caring for your family and makin enough money to put food on the table. Pretty strong values to live up to. I think people now need to step back and look at the things focused on.

  4. I to am very glad to live in the United States. This is something that all of us that live here should be proud of. We get caught up in our ecomomy, and forget to look around at how good we really have it. I am greatful to be an American, and would not have it any other way.
