#3 Apostropheeeee Whhhhhhaaa, Where?

When we want to make words that are singular, plural why are there so many different ways we have to know where to put the endings, and when and where does the spostrophe go if one is needed? I become really lazy with this. I usually just add the "s" at the end forgetting that there is a difference when u add apostrphes to the word. For example Lauras and Laura's means two totally different things! By adding the apostrophy its Laura's possesion without it we need to add a space and add and I to make Laura Is. Pretty much i still go back to this generation being very lazy forgetting what our grammer school english teachers tought us!
Click here: (I can't WORK that sooo here) www.google.com subject: Apostrophe Says,"In possessives, the placement of the apostrophe depends on whether the noun that shows possession is singular or plural. Generally, if the noun is singular, the apostrophe goes before the s. The witch's broom. If the noun is plural, the apostrophe goes after the s: The witches' brooms. However, if the word is pluralized without an s, the apostrophe comes before the s: He entered the men's room with an armload of children's clothing. If you create a possessive with a phrase like of the witches, you will use no apostrophe: the brooms of the witches. "
verb:
Here are some examples:
I am = I'm
you are = you're
she is = she's
it is = it's
do not = don't
she would = she'd
he would have = he would've
let us = let's
who is = who's
she will = she'll
they had = they'd

POOR SPELLING = BAD IMPRESSIONS!!!

GRADE LEVEL SPELLING! We're in college and still have problems with spelling! It seems spelling is the first thing that readers notices, and we all struggle with everyday! Remembering what words need I before E, Homonyms, when to put a PH instead of a F, fitting ing/ ed or "S' endings!! There is so much to remember! Ahhh! I have noticed alot lately more and more that my fellow peers have been asking, "Laura! How to you spell this, LaLa, How do you spell that", on first grade words! Sometimes I find myself double checking! Its kinda ridiculous? Click herehttp://www.helium.com/knowledge/117780-assessing-the-extent-of-poor-spelling-among-college-students or DictionaryHelp.com

Do We Really Miss The 1950's?

When finishing reading, "Looking for Work", and " What We Really Miss About The 1950's". I started thinking of all the movies that portray this genre. Pleasentville was the one that stuck in my head. It is based on a T.V show portraying a perfect family in the 1950's. A brother and sister get stuck in this reality that life has to be lived a certain way. As they lived the "American Dream", They thought it was boring! They had already lived in the future and saw what it brought, and that was "color"! The future had more excitement and better opportunities! Imperfection was not looked down on. I agree completely that Television, books, magazines etc, show that 1950's was the perfect way of living, but is that what we want? What Little Soto saw in, "Looking For Work" was a Family life style that was no longer reality. He believed that all white families where living this perfect lifestyle because of this television show, "Leave it To Beaver". When in reality many white families were living less fortunate than some Hispanic families. Soto just saw the way his family was being raised and was unhappy it. Because of what he saw on tv... this perfect family being portrayed in the 1950's. So what do we really miss about the 1950's? The fact that life seemed perfect? but in acuatlity it's not really what we are looking for! I think the author did a very good job describing both of these stories. She brought both sides of reliving the 1950's, and the good and bad of Soto's life tying to look for work. Yes, we all look back and try to relive our past. We're always saying, man those were the good ol' days, but where we are now and what the future holds..... life is great and seems to keep bringing something new everyday & i wouldn't want to take back any of that!!

Born In America!

What it means to me to be an American Citizen? Well it's all I know, and pretty much all I want to know! I am so grateful to live in such a diverse place where we have the right to vote, freedom of speech, where we have the right to make our own choices. Women are able to work where they please, we have shelter that comes with heaters, hot water, and covers at night! A place where there are so many options for great food, free education, fun fashion, and good entertainment!

Although we feel like our economy is not stable, and our lives our out of our control at times, we take living in America for granite. In our our English book "re reading America", It talked about how the 1950's was the "Ideal" time period to live in. Being it was more family friendly, especially for the youth. Still would not want to live in that time period anymore. We as Americans want something new, "a more equal distribution of work, family, and community time for both men and women, children and adults".( p. 33) Sometimes i wish i was living in the 1950's, it seems life was easier, but then i think about it,and i agree as a woman we have more rights now. I really enjoyed starting to read this book. I tend to take many things for granite trying to keep up with our busy lives. I think this will be good to read and analyze this book!

Like, What's The Prob?

Do you remember, back in middle school we had good grammar, used spelling correctly, and good punctuation was essential? It seemed we knew how to speak correctly, therefore our writing was more clear. How lazy have we become! Our generation talks to one another with improper grammar, using "like" way too much in a sentence. We are forgetting ending to words (such as gettin..i mean common, wheres the G)! I think cell phones have a huge effect on this! They are more popular than ever and texting is taking over!! I think that how we communicate to one another has a huge impact on how we write in our papers. We are abbreviating everything, using incorrect grammar, and ourspelling let alone wrong punctuations, Using them all over the place. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself, but I need def..... I MEAN defiantly need help with that!
