In this article Dianna Kendall talks about the portrayals of life in different social classes of what is real and what is not real. She starts off by talking about the one of many examples that demonstrate how class is played for laughs by the media in the tv show the simple life..... A well watched show staring two well-known rich heiresses( Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton) trying to make a living in the not so glamerous life by living with the less fortunate. We see how they live ,and what they wear by watching all these reality show.We believe that we need all the high end fashion and glamerous cars, houses and shoes. This lifestyle of the poor & unfamous is puttin many in debt! People think we need to live a certain way by what the media shows us. On page 342 Kendall talks about what percentage of the nations wealth.. aaaand a whoppin 90% of households only own 28% of the nations wealth! That would be most of us :/ ugh,That's crap... Do the rich just get weathier and the poor stay poor? Is it crap how some people work their butt off to try and make all dem money & some are just born into wealth. Will this change? Or will we just finally relize that we are not in the class of the rich & famous and buy things within our means?

Interesting thoughts Laura. It's funny that you and I both commented on the Paris Hilton show. Was that not the worst show ever invented!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the top picture is way better than the bottom one.
no i love that show... :) its halerious
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I never saw the Paris Hilton show, I'm going to go with Michael and say it was the worst show ever invented just because Paris Hilton was involved. Just kidding:) Kind of. The media is a (scarily) powerful thing. I don't think we really understand how much we are persuaded by what the media suggests.
ReplyDeleteYou know what LALA im a sucker for mindless tv so I can see where you're comin from I thought thst show was hilarious. So i'm not going to bash on Paris. I really like how you put this though. It makes the article alot more interesting when you relate it to something funny and on tv or in pop culture. YEAY! YEAY!
